It said the construction of the two sections of the pipeline, which will run from Russia to Turkey on the bed of the Black Sea, will be completed by the end of 2019.
“The implementation of Turkstream project is in full swing,” Gazprom chairman Alexy Miller said in a statement. “All necessary permits from Turkey for the offshore laying of Turkstream gas pipeline have been received.”
More than 760 km of gas pipelines will be laid over the two strings. The capacity of each pipeline is 15.75 billion cubic metres per year. First line will carry gas to the Turkish consumers, the second link is designed to ship gas to southern Europe.
Meanwhile, the Russian gas giant’s subsidiary South Stream Transport B.V. said it started construction of TurkStream Offshore Gas Pipeline’s receiving terminal near Turkey’s town of Kıyıköy.
“Preparatory works for the receiving terminal have been well underway for some time. All necessary permits to prepare the area for construction are in place,” the statement said.
The contract for the construction of the receiving terminal was awarded to Petrofac in September 2017.
Petrofac is currently mobilising, and has contracted Tekfen, one of Turkey’s leading construction companies, as its main subcontractor, according to the statement.
The works involve the preparation of the area where the receiving terminal will be located in Turkey’s Thrace region, near the town of Kıyıköy, the company said.
