Kuwait Energy pumps first gas from Iraq’s Siba

Kuwait has started first gas from the Siba gas field in the south of Iraq, according to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA).


Kuwait has started first gas from the Siba gas field in the south of Iraq, according to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA).

Siba, located in Basra in southern Iraq started production on Wednesday, and is being jointly operated by Iraq and Kuwait Energy, KUNA said in a statement.

Iraq’s oil minister Jabar al-Luaibi said Kuwait Energy “turned a dream into reality in the first project of its kind in Iraq.” The project will be source of significant government finances and bring a lot of jobs, the minister said.

Siba began producing gas at an initial rate of 25 million cubic feet (mcf) a day, which should rise gradually to 100 mcf/d by the end of the year, Reuters quoted Kareem Abd Oda, the director general of the joint venture established by Iraq and Kuwait Energy to develop the field.

Meanwhile, Kuwait's General Consul to Basra, southern Iraq, Yousef Al-Sabbagh said that the Consulate is working to make it easier for Kuwaiti investors and companies looking to do business in Iraq by collaborating with the Basra regional government.
