Iraq’s oil ministry invited foreign companies and investors to bid for the construction and operation of a new oil refinery in the Northern Province with a planned capacity of 100,000 barrels per day (bpd).

The operation model for the Nineveh, Al Qayyarah refinery will be either build-own-operate or build-to-transfer, Iraq’s oil ministry said in a statement.

Refinery information documents for the bidding process will be available until April 1, while the closing day for bids is set for May 15.

The refinery is one of three refineries the Iraq oil ministry is in the midst of planning to meet local demand for refined products as well as boost petrochemical exports for supporting government revenues.

Last month, the oil ministry said it will build a 300,000-bpd- oil refinery in the port town Faw, south of Basra with two Chinese firms.
