Inpex gets offshore block in Western Australia

Japan's Inpex Corporation has announced that its subsidiary, Inpex Browse, was awarded an exploration permit as the operator of a block of Western Australia that was part of Australia’s 2017 offshore petroleum exploration acreage release.


Japan's Inpex Corporation has announced that its subsidiary, Inpex Browse, was awarded an exploration permit as the operator of a block of Western Australia that was part of Australia’s 2017  offshore petroleum exploration acreage release.

The Block is located off the northern coast of Western Australia and covers a surface area of 12,402 km2. The Block’s water depth ranges between approximately 50 meters and 600 meters.

INPEX Browse will hold a 100 per cent participating interest in the block which lies on an offshore extension of the onshore Canning Basin in Western Australia where promising oil and gas fields have been discovered and developed.

In a statement Inpex said that as the block was located in a highly promising exploration area where oil discoveries are expected.

This award will bring the number of offshore exploration blocks held by Inpex to 22.
